Early College Program

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Many of our Dual Enrollment courses are offered in-house and taught by our amazing ECP instructors. Benefits of taking college courses by our teachers:

  • MVCA DE teachers are professionally trained high-school teachers and have extensive, rigorous education and training/certification requirements to ensure they know how to effectively teach adolescents (scaffolded, intentional instruction to ensure students are successful, and more)...
  • MVCA DE teachers are also Sierra College professors; they know the ins and outs of Sierra College and can help MVCA students acclimate to college-level courses.
  • MVCA DE teachers truly care about student success and provide personalized, caring instruction that tends to get lost in college-level instruction.
  • MVCA DE teachers travel to different sites to provide in-person assistance to students.
  • MVCA DE teachers can help knock out college "general education" requirements, as outlined below. This means that you'll get both high school graduation credits for taking these courses, WHILE ALSO receiving college general education credits, reducing the amount of courses you'll need to take in college.
    • English General Education (GE) Requirements - English C1000 and English 1B
    • Math GE Requirements - Math 13
    • History/Social Science Requirements - History 17B and History 51
    • Science Requirements - Biology 56 & Environmental Sciences 1

In addition to taking general education requirements by MVCA DE teachers, you also have access to a variety of elective courses (including career/certificate courses) through Sierra College, including (but not limited to) the following:
